Bowie is a perfect example of someone who has changed their image their careers, this started by the fact he had a separate Stage name to his real one (David Robert Jones). Bowie burst into fame in 1969 with his single 'Space Oddity' reaching the top 5 in the charts. After this, he took 3 years off for experimentation which clearly shows he had the thought of change in the back of his mind, this was especially relevant considering he was known for his innovative personality. He then made a reappearance in 1972 during the rock glam era with 'Ziggy Stardust'. In 1975, Bowie broke the American market massively with the hit single 'Fame' and the album ' Young Americans'. He then went on to a commercial peak in 1983 with 'Lets Dance', which yielded several hit singles. At the end of the 80s, this was when Bowie began to experiment a lot more with his music, his new genres included blue eyed sould, adult contemporary, industrial and jungle.

David Bowie had a very controverial sexual orientation to say the least. In January 1972, he admitted to being a homosexual in an interview with Michael Watts. 4 years later in an interview with Playboy he declared himself bi-sexual. Many believe this was all a ploy to gain media attention and increase his sales revenue, making him different from other artists. In 1983 he then declared that coming out as bi-sexual was the 'biggest mistake of his life' and described himself as a 'closet heterosexual'. He was asked again in 2002 if he still believe this was as much of a mistake as he made out at the time, he said it wasn't too hard in Britain, but in America it was a different story and his sex life stood in the way of what he wanted to do, meaning a singer songwriter.

Despite admitting he was gay in 1972, 2 years before he had married a woman called Mary Angela Barnett, they had a son and named him Zowie. This marriage came to an end in 1980 when they agreed to divorce. Bowie was the single for 12 years before re-marrying in 1992 to a Somali-American super model called Iman. 21 years later, hey are still happily married.

Introduction to A2
After working on the film industry last year, this year presents the challenge of studying different music artists and the way record labels work. Personally I think this will suit me more as I am more interested in music and I often go to concerts to watch performing artists. I try not to have a preferred genre of music as I like to keep a diverse selection of music. Having said this, I do generally like listening to 90's British bands such as Oasis and Blur. I am also interested in older music such as The Beatles, The Clash and The Rolling Stones. In terms of modern music, I enjoy listening to organically male vocalists such as Ed Sheeran or Bon Iver.
I also like modern hip-hop and rap music such as 50 Cent and Drake. I believe that keeping an open mind about your taste of music is fundamental and allows you to enjoy different types of music. I am looking forward to studying the industry in depth.
