My third idea is adverting the stereotypes of rappers singing about wealth, women and drugs. I have an idea of a rap singer in a run down area of East London such as Peckham or Tottenham. And rather than having them talk about having come from the slums and have now reached success and money, they would sing about how their in the position and and trying to make it to the top. I think this would be a successful idea because it would inspire young rappers from deprived backgrounds.
Rappers that sing about their wealth include 50 cent and Snoop Dogg, personally i think this could have a negative effect on some people because it could make them jealous and dislike them. Whereas if the artist is seen as a likeable figure, the public may be more inclined to help their cause.
The only artist who I can thing of who has done a similar thing is Dizzee Rascal, not in that he sings about him being from a rough upbringing, but he sings with a thick East London accent and definitely a large part of his success has come through his image of being a Londoner through and through.
You have posted your three initial concepts, Owen, but have not carried our the extension activity which I asked for - research into and illustration of the image of the artists. Please go back to each of these and provide some indication of the star image that the concepts are selling. It is crucial that you work with the prep assignment to hand so that you are clear about what you have to do and make sure that you give prep tasks sufficient time and attention.
